  • 0806Programme Jazz Middelheim 2010 completeWith Cassandra Wilson and the Archie Shepp Quartet with Special Guests Roswell Rudd & Leon Parker the last two names are added to the programme. Toots Thielemans comes to Jazz Middelheim with his Quartet.

August 12th showcases tenor saxophone player Archie Shepp and his Quartet, replacing Hank Jones who recently passed away. For the occasion Achie Shepp brings along Roswell Rudd & Leon Parker as guests. Saxophone player, composer and vocalist Archie Shepp was one of the loudest voices in the radical sixties. He first appeared alongside John Coltrane.

Toots Thielemans, the artistic godfather of the festival, is the headliner for Saturday August 14th. He takes to the Jazz Middelheim stage with Hein Van de Geyn, Karel Boehlee and Hans Van Oosterhout.

Cassandra Wilson, back in Belgium after quite a while, has the honour of closing this 29th edition of Jazz Middelheim. During the last 20 years she became one of the leading jazz divas, although she also sings blues songs or pop songs as well now and then. Her main weapon is her moving, smokey, shady voice.

Earlier the festival announced artists like Wayne Shorter Quartet, Ahmad Jamal, McCoy Tyner Trio feat. Joe Lovano, Dave Holland Flamenco Project for the 2010 edition.

Jazz Middelheim 2010 came to an end with 18 000 visitors. For the second year in a row this means a record edition. The festival day with among others headliner and artistic godfather of the festival Toots Thielemans was sold out on Saturday. The public enjoyed concerts of living jazz legends like Archie Shepp, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Wayne Shorter and Toots Thielemans who all wrote jazz history.

The synergie on the festival site and in the organization resulted in much appreciated live broadcastings on KLARA radio for four festival days. So the people who could not attend the festival in the park did not have to miss a second of this 2010 edition.

We would like to thank all visitors and volunteers. See you next year!
